What should I do if my helper has taken a loan from a moneylender?

Information on what to do if your helper has taken a loan

It is important to first verify if your helper has taken a loan from either a licensed or unlicensed moneylender. Thereafter, you should assess the situation and check for the following in order to make an informed decision:

  • How much she has borrowed

  • How many money lenders she have borrowed from

  • The interest rate

  • Number of installments

  • Why she borrowed.

You can find out more information here

Please also note that helpers can opt for self-exclusion from moneylenders, which will  stop licensed moneylenders from giving loans to them.

Employers of domestic helpers or employment agencies can apply for the exclusion on behalf of helpers only if consent is given by the helpers themselves. To register your helper for self-exclusion on her behalf, you can do so via the MLCB website with your SingPass.
